Chocolate Waffles
Ingredients
- 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup mini chocolate chips
- 1/3 cup granulated sugar
- 1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 1/2 cups buttermilk
- 6 tablespoons butter or coconut oil, melted
- 2 eggs
- 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
- 1/2 cup confectioner’s sugar, for garnish
Directions
- Preheat waffle maker. Preheat oven to 200°F.
- In a large bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, cocoa powder, chocolate chips, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Set aside.
- In a medium bowl, whisk together buttermilk, butter or coconut oil, eggs, and vanilla extract.
- Gradually pour milk mixture into flour mixture, stir until almost combined. Batter will have some small lumps.
- Pour batter onto waffle maker and cook to desired doneness.
- Place waffle on a cookie sheet and keep warm in oven. Repeat with remaining batter.
- Sprinkle with confectioner’s sugar before serving.
Makes: Six (6-inch) round waffles

- For Petite Waffle Maker: Pour ¼ cup batter onto waffle maker and cook for 4 minutes or until desired doneness. Makes 11 Petite Waffles
- Waffles may be made ahead of time and frozen. Cool completely before placing in a resealable plastic bag to freeze. Reheat on a parchment-lined baking sheet in a 350° oven for 10 to 12 minutes, or until heated through.
- These are delicious by themselves but extra yummy when topped with sliced strawberries, berries, whipped cream, ice cream, peanut butter, or syrup, just to name a few options. Get creative and have fun!
